Electrical engineering

The nature of a building's electrical engineering is determined to a large extent by the requirements that are derived from its future use. We use these requirements as a basis for our design analyses and calculations. Doing so gives rise to plans that secure optimised power ratings, maximum availability, high operational security, high data rates, effective security monitoring and the sustainable use of primary energies. Our range of services covers all areas of electrical engineering. Moreover, we always work with the latest proven technologies.

Heavy current engineering

With our know-how in the generation and distribution of electrical energy as well as our knowledge of current plant and system technology, we have a stable basis for meeting the most varied requirements. Together, we develop tailor-made comprehensive solutions in the areas of medium, low and extra-low voltage in new buildings as well as refurbishment of existing plants - even during operation. The supply networks are calculated by us to ensure that they meet the high requirements of personal and plant protection and achieve the availability requirements.

Light current engineering

Through continuous project work coupled with targeted further training, we always stay on course in this dynamic environment. This means that we know the trends and can implement them in a targeted manner.

Lighting engineering

Light is a prerequisite for visually perceiving and understanding our surroundings. It makes things visible without being visible itself. We aim to utilise light in such a way that it gives objects a shape and relates space, shape, colour and surface to one another.

Building automation

The visible elements (property shape and colours) within a project magically attract attention, while invisible project components usually go unnoticed. However, their effects are felt in the life cycle of a building in the form of operating and maintenance costs. We pay great attention to “invisible trade” automation right from the start of the planning. Questions regarding the integrity and flexibility of systems must be clarified at an early stage, especially when building services and building concepts are defined independently of one another.

Communication technology

The field of information technology is extremely dynamic. Technologies become obsolete very quickly and it is therefore essential to make the right investments based on sustainable approaches. We support our customers in their decision-making processes, point out possible solutions, evaluate variants and use synergies.

Safety engineering

We support activities for the systematic handling of safety in buildings. We create integral safety concepts based on risk analyses and specific requirements such as safety standards, hazards, official regulations and operational procedures. With our expertise, we support and promote the systematic handling of risks and facilitate concepts that offer appropriate and balanced protection.

Lightning protection

In recent years, the identification of damage risks has become an important part of lightning protection planning. The danger to buildings from direct and indirect lightning strikes is quantified and evaluated in risk analyses. On the basis of a well-founded risk analysis and its interpretation, it is guaranteed that a lightning protection concept can be created that is clearly comprehensible for all parties involved. Economic and technical optimisation guarantees the necessary protection at the lowest possible cost. In addition, external and internal lightning protection must be carefully coordinated.

Building automation

The smart control of buildings offers an excellent means of saving energy. The key word here is smart, however, because actually saving energy depends on a careful alignment of the various components in the building systems engineering. This is the reason why we take account of automation functionality at an early stage, i.e. while drafting the engineering concept. We use physical building models as a basis for dimensioning the building systems engineering and all automation systems. This includes defining the essential properties of the most important components.

Photovoltaics

Consulting

Photovoltaics have taken on greater significance in the area of building systems engineering, particularly since the government approved the private use of energy produced off-grid. Indeed, the Swiss power grid will see major changes in the near future in connection with the decentralised storage of solar power. We know the latest developments on the market and can competently advise you in all matters relating to solar power generation and use.

Our specialists help you to develop and manage your solar power projects by providing the following services:

  • Feasibility studies, pilot projects and comparison with alternative plans
  • Investment strategies for real estate portfolios
  • Private use optimisation
  • Building integration
  • Developer support and representation
  • Facilitation of feed-in remuneration and one-time remuneration options
  • Solar power strategies for PSCs
  • Proof of origin marketing
  • Founding of solar power cooperatives
  • Roof use contracts
  • Solar installation consulting programmes for energy cities and regions
  • Surge arresters and EMC

Architectural design

We offer architectural design services and guarantee cross-discipline competence from the planning phase to the construction phase and onward to the transfer of the photovoltaic installation to the developer. Our range of services includes:

  • Submission of applications for building permits, grants and design approvals
  • Selection of optimal designs and modules
  • Roof load configuration under consideration of snow loads, wind and dynamic pressure as per SIA 161
  • Design and calculation of internal and external surge arresters
  • Measurements, commissioning and maintenance
  • Yield monitoring
  • Thermography for purposes of analysis and error detection

Electromobility

Electromobility is becoming increasingly important. After all, the number of electric vehicles on Swiss roads every year is on the rise. The energy and infrastructure required for this must be correctly conceptualised during the planning phase.
The Amstein + Walthert Group supports developers, investors, private individuals and municipalities in the realisation of simple to complex charging infrastructures from concept to implementation while taking life cycles into account. Projects are realised on an interdisciplinary basis in order to develop an optimal solution. During the initial project phases, we already consider the charging infrastructure and explore potential combinations with solar-power or battery storage systems.

Our services

  • Feasibility studies in existing properties
  • AC & DC charging infrastructure
  • Concept and planning of the charging infrastructure through to implementation
  • Planning of charging management and load optimisation
  • Evaluation of partners for implementation
  • Comparison and selection of compatible billing solutions
  • Coordination of all parties involved and contact persons
  • Evaluation of possible subsidies (municipal, cantonal, federal)
